What is a Cosmetic Dentist?
A cosmetic dentist is the self-appointed title given to an area of dentistry that performs dental work with the specific aim of improving the appearance of a person’s teeth and their smile. Some consider that the term is somewhat misleading given that the general objective of dental work is to provide better teeth and smiles for patients. However, the purpose of any well-run cosmetic dentist’s marketing campaign will undoubtedly be to attract specific clientele wanting to improve the image of their teeth and smile, rather than have any other form of dental work performed on them.
What is an Endodontist?
The technical definition of an Endodontist is a dentist that has completed dental school and then taken two more years of specialty training to treat tooth roots and the pulp of teeth. The pulp of a tooth contains nerves, the root and lymphatic tissues and when this area becomes diseased or injured, and Endodontist treats that problem.
What Education and/or Certifications are Required to Become a Dentist?
Dentists provide care and treatment to maintain the teeth and gums of their patients. They fill cavities, inspect for tooth decay, improve tooth alignment and repair broken or chipped teeth. While some dentists specialize in specific areas such as pediatrics, orthodontics or oral surgery most dentists work as general practitioners. Dentists must earn a degree from an accredited dental school and pass state imposed licensing exams. In addition to private practice, today's dental school graduates can choose to work in hospital emergency rooms, conduct advanced laboratory research or teach future dentists.
What is Holistic Dentistry?
The field of Holistic Dentistry involves studying the whole person - in addition to understanding an individuals oral cavity. This involves using techniques to understand an individuals mind/body connection as well as an emphasis on four major principles such as the prevention and treatment of dental problems through proper nutrition, the elimination of toxic fillings and other dental materials, the identification and correction of bite problems and the treatment of gum disease as a biological problem.
